Oakley | Meta Vanguards
Oakley Meta Vanguard is the first smart glasses built for athletes. I was the principal designer who owned the product experience it from vision to the stage at Meta Connect 2025.
I started by studying the everyday athlete alongside Oakley, then validated designs through qualitative research and quantitative testing - hammering the product interactions with real cyclists and runners in the Vision Performance Lab, (VPL) and set the vision for the hero experiences myself: Athletic Intelligence, real-time performance coaching delivered through voice and a glanceable LED zone indicator, milestone-based autocapture with stats overlaid on the recap, and one-touch sharing to Strava.
Then I built that vision as a working hardware prototype, took it to Garmin and Strava headquarters, and used it to align three companies around one experience, running the design and engineering workshops that turned a demo into shipping integrations inside the Meta AI app. Every feature was validated with everyday athletes, professionals, and dogfooders until it earned its place, because on an athlete's face at threshold heart rate, anything that doesn't add value comes off. The result is a product that helps people train smarter, keeps them coming back, and gives them something worth sharing. It shipped on time, on stage, and it is the clearest proof of how I work: set the vision, build it, bring the partners along, and ship.
